Home Page:

This website is designed to enhance your understanding of our unit on William Shakespeare's Hamlet.  Here you will be able to access links that lead you to important dates to remember, key concepts to review, responsibilities and tips for students, and tips for parents.  You can also access a discussion board where I have posted my expectations for the class.  I encourage everyone to further use this discussion board to post your goals, questions, and thoughts throughout this unit.

For the Classroom:

Homework is broken up into sections by Acts.  The reading requirements are posted online in a weekly schedule as well as in your study guide.  You are to complete the readings each day for homework, and you must come to class prepared (with your copy of Hamlet and your study guide questions filled out for each reading section).  An additional study guide will not provided if you lose your copy that was distributed in class last week; therefore, it is your responsibility to take care of it throughout the unit.

For further help or understanding, see the links provided.

For the Students:

Students will be asked to complete a final project or presentation in small groups of 5 on anything they found the most interesting in this unit.  Topics may include but are not limited to: character analysis, quotation explanations, themes and motifs, plot points (cause & effect) etc.  The students will have the opportunity to create their own power points to enhance their presentations, but can also use other methods such as creating posters, acting out scenes, showing movie clips, or creating a website or game.

More information on lesson resources for students can be found in the links provided.

For the Parents:

Please encourage your child to complete the assigned readings and daily homework for this unit.  It is your responsibility to actively engage in your child's education by being present to them in any way you can.  Maybe it's been a while since you yourself read Shakespeare; however, at the end of this unit I hope you find that Hamlet is a timeless classic that has the ability to touch your heart in ways it couldn't 20 years ago.  Your sons and daughters will be asked to complete a final project at the end of the unit.  This project will require a lot of time and energy; therefore, your enthusiasm for them to learn Shakespeare will be much appreciated, as it will serve as the positive reinforcement they will need outside of the classroom.

See the link above on how to get more involved as parents.
